Before I Forget

Before I Forget is the first game from a brand new studio, 3-Fold Games. They are a small British studio made up of two women. Their game is a first-person narrative and exploration game. (̵̥͠I̶̧̥̋%̸̮̫̄̅/̶̠̽w̷̥̋m̵̮̋y̴̡̖̌Ĭ̷͎̄ň̷͕P̶̞͉͂̉f̷͓̦̿͝#̸̛̭͕Ḩ̵̱̒O̵̼̬͘4̸͙͌͜q̵͓͇̌̕#̶͈̺̂̏%̶̤̋/̶̡̋͋B̴̯͐̾ś̴̩z̷̡͚̔̍!̵̤̠̌͌I̷͔̓̐9̸̞̋̚ More than a game though Before I Forget is also a social commentary on love, loss and exploring old age and all the feelings associated with it. Do not expect it to be just another game, Before I Forget will take you through an emotional journey.

The character you play is Sunita, a woman suffering of early onset dementia. The game is all about exploring your apartment and through that exploration discovering fragments of your past. As you go around your home you start to slowly rediscover your life. You do not quite understand why you cannot remember. o̵̬̱̕5̵̝͌͒ͅJ̶̢͔̏̕M̷̺̮̂*̵͖̼͑͘S̴̛̝̹X̴͔̓̅Z̶̘͍͗͠n̴̯̈́̈́5̵̬͚͛͝5̴͉̂B̶͚̭͌͛C̵̻̓k̷̥̃H̶̞̗́m̶͛͛ͅû̶̘͓͒t̴̽͜k̵̭͛G̴̼̭͝v̶̗̚6̸̩̭̄̀?̴͚͊̚P̴̛͉̪͒ṋ̸͔͝ The truth is just at the edge of your mind but you just cannot quite remember. You are becoming a bit anxious, what if you forget everything that shaped your identity. You are scared of losing yourself. If only Dylan was there. Dylan is your husband but you have no idea where he is or when he is coming back. If you can only find Dylan, everything will get back to normal.

I am not going to say anymore about the story because it would ruin the whole experience for those who plan on playing it. Before I Forget’s gameplay is steeped in the discoveries of Sunita’s life. It is left to the player to untangle the character’s life through exploration and it is a big part of this game’s charm. To illustrate this you just have to look at the very first scene. The game begins with everything out of focus until you find your glasses that is and then everything reveals itself. After that initial scene you walk around your apartment exploring and looking at everything in a new light. You find pictures and notes scattered around. Everything seems new but as you pick up the pictures and they come into view the memories flow back. You see some short cut scenes that bring you back in time. The notes though you do not remember seeing before. Why are those notes laying all around? That is only one of the mysteries you will have to elude.

Before I Forget is a very short experience. If you take your time to examine everything and listen to every cut scene, it should take you a little over an hour to complete. Do not be fooled by the simple look though, it is a deep and engaging game. ¨̵̬̅R̷̺̳̓I̷̗̼̓8̸̭̿k̵͇̺̅D̸̖̀i̸̮͑Ỷ̴̘̈Û̶͓̫”̴̦͗i̴̠̗̊͌8̴̦͂̊j̷̜̽Y̶̛͓͐v̵͚̄e̸̩͝ͅ=̴͔̝̅M̵̮̣͑͠?̸̡̈́”̴͓̀̾(̸̦̎̈́Ḑ̷́3̸̞̓̇w̶̧̼̉̓k̸̢̻̚͝ The developers have displayed a great ability in creating a story that for a moment puts you on in the reality of an aging woman and what it feels like to see all your memories slip away from you. This game will take you through a whole array of emotions. An excellent first entry from the developers at 3-Fold Games. I recommend it to everyone who likes thought provoking games that leave you changed.
